Rivermen_1980.jpg

This was the first Rivermen Territory patch.  When the new eight regions had been formed, Johnnie Barnes, the National Royal Rangers Commander, designed and released from the national office eight territorial FCF Patches.  Each depicted the regions animal mascot, and the name of the territory.  The release date for this patch and the set is 1980.

Historical Info:  Those cajuns know how to throw a feast!  If it walked, flew, swam or crawled, they roasted it or turned it into gumbo. The first night was a cool one, but then the rest of the camp warmed up.  Watch those boys from Tennessee though, the can sure set the woods on fire!

Historical Info:  At this rendezvous, we learned that tipis that catch fire burn very quickly, and that rain cannot dampen the spirit of FCF.  The Quapaw Chapter also graced the membership present with their song of "The Twelve Days of Rendezvous".

Historical Info:  This was the first Rivermen Rendezvous ever held in Arkansas, and the last rendezvous conducted by Paul Rainwater. The patch design paid homage to the Spanish Conquistodors who were the first Europeans to discover the natural hot springs that are found in that part of the state where the rendezvous was held.

Historical Info:  This was the year of the double rendezvous.  The chapters voted in 1994 to hold a double rendezvous with the Plainsmen Territory.  The rendezvous was held in the Jemez mountains, on the Jemez Indian reservation in northern New Mexico.  Around 25 FCF members attended from the Rivermen Territory.  Fred Deaver was the speaker for this event, as there had never been a double rendezvous in the history of Royal Rangers.  The smaller bobcat patch was the patch given out for the event, and has become very rare and valuable to patch collectors.
The Chapter presidents voted in Feburary of 1996 to have a seperate rendezvous in Mississippi in October for those who could not make it to New Mexico.  Sonny Green was the speaker for the second rendezvous, which was held at Camp Walkaway Springs in Meridian, Ms.  The smaller bobcat patch was enlarged to the correct size, and was given to those who came to the Mississippi rendezvous.  These too have become rare and valueable to patch collectors. The Plainsmen rendezvous patch was identical to the Rivermen patch in design, except for their buffalo was on it instead of the bobcat.

Louisiana and Mississippi had very recently been devastated by Hurricane Katrina.  The men of the Rivermen Territory setup a command center in Slidell, LA and worked at helping people cleanup and rebuild their lives.  Scout testing had to be postponed until Regional Conference in Memphis the following February. This was to be Ted Romero's first Rendezvous as the Territorial Rep.

Historical Info: This was the first rendezvous in four years for the Rivermen.  The rain came and went and gave us all a Mississippi Mud pie to camp in.  Those Choctaw's put on a great feed, and left everyone with a full belly and a great start to Rendezvous.  John Robinson, Riflemen Territorial Rep attended as a guest and with him was Jeff Cooper, the newly appointed Director of Royal Rangers International.  Cold nights, a game a spoons (and a sore head!) all gave to great fellowship.  Commander Ralph Palmerton very generously donated several of his hand made bows to the auction.  In the end a great time of fellowship with brothers, and a great rendezvous!

Rivermen_FCF 40th.jpg

One in a series of eight territorial patches, this FCF 40th anniversary patch issued in 2006, depicts the regional mascot on the traditional arrowhead design, on top of the muzzle of a rifle.  This patch set was commissioned by the national Royal Rangers office as a commerative set, complete with a certificate of authenticy.  All eight patches were designed by Fred Deaver.
